Bio

Dr. Deng is a Principal at Charles River Associates, an external expert (grant reviewer) for the Romanian National Council for Scientific Research, a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, and an editor of American Bar Assoc.’s (ABA) Antitrust Source. He has 15 years of experience in economic consulting and academic research and has advised clients in some of the largest cartel and market manipulation cases in the past decade. He has also worked closely with US agencies including the FERC, the CFTC, and the FTC on issues such as market manipulation and merger investigation. His experiences span a variety of industries, including high-tech, finance and commodities, publishing, chemicals, vitamins, and energy.

Dr. Deng has published extensively on topics including econometric methodologies, antitrust compliance, class certification, and the intersection between technology (artificial intelligence and blockchain) and antitrust. He has spoken on the antitrust implications of technologies at CLE-credited events sponsored by the American Bar Association and the Knowledge Group, at the Competition Bureau Canada, and at Indecopi, Peru’s antitrust authority. He recently testified on the issue of algorithmic collusion at FTC’s Hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century. His work on algorithmic compliance was quoted in the 2020 Antitrust Compliance Guidelines issued by Indecopi.
